Slow fashion, made simple
LAW Design Studio is a small batch slow fashion brand based in Glasgow. The label was founded in 2018 by Scottish fashion designer and freelance illustrator Gillian McNeill.
They create sustainable womenswear with timeless, minimalist style. Their aim is to help customers build a capsule wardrobe that is as beautiful as it is functional, with consciously crafted linen and organic cotton clothing.
CIRCULAR RESULTS
Rethinking the business model: A take-back programme encourages shoppers to return their LAW item of clothing when it is no longer wanted.
Design for the future: Fabric offcuts are repurposed into other items.
HOW THEY DID IT
The team at LAW Design Studio do what they can can to reduce waste in the design and manufacturing process, like repurposing fabric offcuts into homeware and accessories. They also know, however, that the supply chain doesn’t end there and place emphasis on the importance of what happens to their products after they have been worn and loved. With this in mind, LAW Circular was launched in a bid to step up their zero waste transition and to encourage customers help close the loop.
LAW Circular: Once a customer has finished or no longer wants to keep an item of LAW clothing, they can send it back to LAW and receive a £20 voucher to spend in the store. The team then reprocesses the old item of clothing, any defects will be mended and the item of clothing will be uploaded onto the LAW Circular store at a price reflective to the quality of the garment.
