Supporting communities to take climate action
Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) are an organisation that support community groups, voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises across the city.
CIRCULAR RESULTS
Collaboration: GCVS work closely with and provide support to third sector organisations to increase circular practices and other sustainability measures across their teams.
HOW THEY DID IT
Through the Glasgow Climate Action Hub, GCVS recognise and support charities and other third sector organisations to embed environmental goals into their practices, as an integral part of building a fairer and happier society.
GCVS believe that forming a Green Team is a valuable part of working within an organisation, as a way to promote sustainability initiatives and best practices. GCVS’s Green Team encourage members from across departments to take ownership of their environmental actions by designing, planning, and carrying out key areas of their sustainability measures.
Members of the Green Team develop new skills by learning from each other and collaborating within departments and across other organisations. Regular meetings are held to report on and update tasks, and for the journey to be shared widely to stakeholders. When hiring new team members, GCVS also incorporate Green Team membership and values into job descriptions to keep sustainability goals on the agenda throughout the organisation.
