Established in 2011, Dear Green Coffee Roasters is a coffee roaster and supplier of exclusive ‘speciality’ grade coffee beans. The company signed up for the Step Up to Net Zero (SUTNZ) programme as they needed support to progress their environmental goals and Net Zero targets. Through the programme, Dear Green Coffee Roasters were able to recruit a sustainability co-ordinator, Martha, who was given a four-month placement to create and implement strategies as part of an Action Plan to help the company meet its environmental goals and ambitions.
RESULTS
- A carbon footprint figure for each coffee blend
- An increase in Dear Green Coffee’s B-Corp score from under 90 to 112
HOW THEY DID IT
During her SUTNZ placement, Martha accomplished many sustainability action points – from producing a carbon footprint figure for each coffee blend to completing the notoriously difficult task of increasing the company’s B-Corp score. IThe B-Corp score has created a great platform for the company’s reassessment later this year and has helped them move one step closer to achieving their goal of becoming the highest-scoring B-Corp coffee roastery in the UK.
Through Martha’s hard work, Dear Green Coffee Roasters were nominated and became finalists in two awards; Sustainability by the Scotsman Scran Awards and Best Small Business by Vibes Awards.
After the completion of the SUTNZ placement, Martha was offered a role within Dear Green and has been tasked with an ongoing programme of actions to achieve the company’s Net Zero target.
