Setting the example that coffee can be a force for good

Dear Green achieved one of the highest B Corp scores of any Scottish coffee roaster during their recertification in 2024. This accolade reaffirms the organisation’s commitment to upholding rigorous social and environmental standards set by the B Corp certification, with their new score placing them alongside companies such as Patagonia, Ben and Jerry’s, and Toms. Dear Green’s score demonstrates their values and commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and its workers across the supply chain.

CIRCULAR RESULTS

Collaboration: Glasgow Coffee Festival, organised by Dear Green, is the first in the world to ban single-use cups on site, partnering with businesses to encourage attendees bring their own cups or use reusable cups provided by the event. Read more about the festival here.

Rethinking resources: By collaborating with Glasgow-based organisations, Dear Green repurpose their chaff, a by-product of the coffee roasting process, utilising it as a fertiliser to help produce high quality vegetables.

HOW THEY DID IT

In an industry lacking transparency and accountability, Dear Green are determined to redefine the standards across the coffee supply chain and set the example that coffee can be a force for good.

The company have pledged to be net zero by 2030 and hope to achieve this by investing in electric vehicles, installing solar panels and heat pumps, and to implement anaerobic composting for their waste. The business measures, monitors and reports on its environmental impact annually to remain accountable to its ambitious yet necessary targets.

Dear Green advocate for systemic change in the coffee industry, working with other B Corp businesses to create a more transparent, sustainable supply chain. Taking a holistic approach to sustainability, they implement changes across business practices, such as reducing waste further by repurposing and reusing materials and supporting communities, employees and customers.
