AutoRek, a business that provide financial controls and regulatory reporting software, have been calculating their carbon emissions since 2022 with the longer-term goal of formally validating their footprint and targets.

Rethinking resources: By sending coffee grounds to Mossgiel Farm for composting and diverting it from landfill, the amount of greenhouse gases emitted is reduced, and studies show that coffee actually enriches the soil for plant growth.
HOW THEY DID IT
The team are taking a number of steps to reduce the environmental impact across the organisation.
To reduce waste, AutoRek are swapping out paper towels in the office for reusable tea towels, sourcing coffee beans locally and sending the grounds to Mossgiel Farm for composting, and organising litter picks with local communities across their Glasgow and Edinburgh sites.
The business have also established a Green Team, who have been supporting positive behavioural change by hosting friendly Strava competitions between departments to encourage active travel to work.
