The Circular Economy & Cities Report

Written by Professor Greg Clark CBE and Borane Gille from The Business of Cities with support from Cheryl McCulloch from Circular Glasgow.

Glasgow has been recognised as a pioneering city in the circular economy and with many major projects in the pipeline, the city’s construction sector has a real opportunity to drive innovation, adopt circular practices and ultimately future-proof the city’s built environment.

With construction and real estate identified among the sectors that make the most intensive use of raw materials, this paper examines how circularity could transform construction and real estate in the city of Glasgow.

Jill Farrell, Chief Operating Officer of Zero Waste Scotland said, “The circular economy has the potential to change the way we design and build in Scotland. The construction industry is facing a huge challenge to reduce the significant amount of waste it produces, and circular approaches are key to providing environmental and economic benefits. This report sets out how construction businesses can take action to make the circular economy the new norm.”
