Building on the momentum of the Step Up to Net Zero (SUTNZ) programme, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new resources hub, funded through Scottish Enterprise – an initiative designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Scotland on their sustainability journeys.

A Legacy of Positive Change

Over the course of its first two phases, SUTNZ, funded by Glasgow City Council and UK SPF, and delivered by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, has engaged nearly 70 businesses in Glasgow, providing them with tailored action plans and dedicated funded placements to implement their sustainability strategies. These efforts have sparked significant change, from reducing carbon footprints to creating innovative resources that support long-term sustainability goals.

Feedback from participating businesses highlighted the importance of collaboration, and in particular, being able to share their knowledge and experiences from the programme. This insight inspired the creation of the Resources Project, funded by Scottish Enterprise, to develop and distribute open-source tools for SMEs. These resources will serve as a vital starting point for organisations aiming to align with Scotland’s ambitious goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

A Platform for Collaboration

The Resources Project has worked in collaboration with businesses and organisations from a range of sectors; Arts, Creative & Retail; Built Environment and Construction; Community Outreach & Charity Sector; Hospitality, Events & Attractions; and Manufacturing and Services. With over 50 SMEs acting as Ambassadors across the city, these businesses are not only contributing their insights but also fostering cross-sector collaboration.

“Tailored, sector-specific materials can make all the difference,” shared a representative from the Third Sector. This highlights one of the project’s aims, to bring sector inclusive and practical support, ensuring that businesses and organisations of all sizes and industries can access the guidance they need.

Driving the Circular Economy

The Resources Project is also a positive step in fostering the circular economy across Glasgow and Scotland. By encouraging knowledge-sharing and sustainable practices, the project helps SMEs meet future legislative requirements whilst creating meaningful partnerships that strengthen the local economic landscape.

The Circular Glasgow website will house these resources, designed by businesses for businesses, offering actionable tools and insights that simplify the transition to more sustainable operations. Through these efforts, we aim to not only support individual organisations but also accelerate Scotland’s collective adaptation to climate change.
