Creating a lasting legacy

In March 2018, Circular Glasgow hosted the first city-led challenge on Circle Lab asking citizens and companies from cities across the world how local businesses can improve the economic, environmental and social legacy of major city conferences and events.

What is Circle Lab?

Circle Lab is an online platform, developed by Circle Economy in the Netherlands and supported by the Ebay Foundation, which aims to mobilise a global community of cities, businesses and citizens to solve universal challenges with circular solutions.

The Glasgow Challenge

We invited participants to submit their ideas and solutions for the following question:

How can small to medium sized local businesses improve the legacy of major city conferences and events?

Every year, Glasgow plays host to a wide range of major events and conferences. In 2017 alone, the city recorded over 3 million attendances across a variety of high-profile events including the Homeless World Cup to the BBC 6 Music Festival.

The city of Glasgow also understands the challenges involved in the production of these events. Circle Lab was an opportunity to support the city’s commitment to sustainability and create practical solutions that could be implemented within the city’s venues.

After 4 weeks of knowledge sharing, problem solving and open access to ideas, 3 winning circular solutions were selected to help transform Glasgow’s thriving events industry.
