Southside Tool Library

The Southside Tool Library enables people to borrow tools as an alternative to buying them new. Established in 2018, it has a convenient and accessible high street presence at environmental charity South Seeds’ base on Victoria Road. It is currently open Tuesday and Thursday 3pm – 6pm and borrowers can book tools online for collection the next day.

The library has over 500 tools available to borrow and borrowing is free – we just ask for a small annual membership donation which goes towards repair and maintenance of tools. Since opening in 2018, over 300 members have joined and there have been over 600 tool loans, saving members an estimated £7,000 on buying tools brand new. The Southside Tool Library is currently funded by the National Lottery Communities Fund.

Borrow don't buy

Borrowing is a much more efficient use of limited natural resources – all the raw materials, water and fuel that are required to manufacture and transport new tools around the world are shared between multiple borrowers rather than just one person who might only use the tool once or twice.
